I reviewed the Nanoleaf Elements – NanoLeaf’s wood textured hexagon wall lights – They sure are pretty, but are they worth it?

As a busy dad and tech enthusiast, I was excited to try out the Nanoleaf Smarter by Design Elements, a set of wood-look hexagons for home lighting. I’ve always been a fan of Nanoleaf’s sleek and modern designs, so I had high hopes for this product.
Upon unboxing the Elements, I was impressed by the quality of the materials. The hexagons themselves are elegant and clean, with a laminate wood look that adds a warm, dramatic touch to any room. The kit includes mounting plates, a power supply unit, adhesive mounting tapes, and linkers for connecting the panels. Everything is sturdy and well-made, and the hexagonal box it comes in is a nice touch.
Setting up the Elements was a breeze. The kit is easy to plug in, and the instructions are straightforward. The controller is touch-sensitive and looks like a finished piece of beveled wood, adding a polished touch to the overall setup. You can fit up to 22 tiles on a single power supply, and the system can expand to 88 panels in total on a single controller.
However, my experience with the accompanying app left something to be desired. While the initial setup was intuitive, I’ve had ongoing issues with the app losing connection and being difficult to use. The music sync mode is a cool feature, but I’m not a fan of the warm white lights pulsing to the music. I appreciate the 13 pre-loaded modes, the ability to create custom playlists, and the option to download other scenes from the “discover” tab.
One of the major drawbacks of the Elements is the price. At $249.99, they are significantly more expensive than the Govee Glide Hexa Light Panels, which are $189.99 and come with ten panels rather than the seven included with the Elements. Additionally, I’ve had a much better experience with the Govee app, which is simple to use and has never lost connection.
That being said, I do like the Nanoleaf Elements in the specific context of my office, which has an aspen lodge-inspired aesthetic. They add a softer, more natural look that I appreciate. However, I would not recommend them to those seeking RGB lights or a more budget-friendly option. If you’re looking for a specific application that wants a softer, natural look, then the Nanoleaf Elements may be worth considering. But if you’re looking for a more versatile or cost-effective lighting solution, there may be better options on the market.
